Workshop description:

How can your advisory group or board of directors help your organization move forward? Can they help you be accountable to the community you serve? What board structures and practices are best for your organization’s stage of development? This workshop will give you an overview of board governance basics, with a special emphasis on models for small and emerging community-based and faith-based organizations. Topics will include: How to select a governance model tailored to your organization’s stage of development and constituents’ needs; principles of effective governance; board composition and recruitment; and building effective partnerships between the board, staff, and your community.

Trainer: Dr. Judy Freiwirth, Nonprofit Solutions Associates

Dr. Judy Freiwirth, Principal of Nonprofit Solutions Associates, is an organizational development consultant with 30 years of consulting and training work for culturally diverse community-based non-profits. She has a long history of working with small and emerging organizations. In addition to board governance and development, her practice includes consulting in all major areas of organization development. She is considered one of the leading trainers and consultants for non-profits in the Greater Boston area, particularly in the area of board governance and has been a keynote speaker and trainer at many national and regional conferences. She is also the Founder and Coordinator of the Alliance for Nonprofit Management’s national network of researchers, consultants, and management support organizations around the U.S. focused on developing new models of board governance. She also holds a doctorate in psychology, specializing in organization development.
