Youth Employment Alliance (YEA!)
In 2006 New Roots’ parent organization, The Providence Plan, was awarded a Communities Empowering Youth (CEY) grant to convene and support seven youth-serving organizations.
They are:
The Curse Breakers
Iglesia Vison Evangelica
The Institute for the Study & Practice of Nonviolence
The Providence Youth Student Movement (PrYSM)
The New Roots Providence CEY Project serves the geographic area of Providence, RI. CEY social service priority areas that we are addressing include youth violence and gang activity. An estimated 25,387 youth are among our target population.
Since 2007, the CEY initiative has officially adopted a new identity around the common “youth employment” object that is shared by all seven of the partner organizations. As the Youth Employment Alliance, or YEA! for short, these seven partners have committed themselves to working together over the remainder of the CEY project to:
- improve their mechanisms for connecting Providence youth to other jobs;
- reach out to other organizations working to provide jobs for underserved youth;
- share research from our community assessment with local public and private leaders about the need for more employment opportunities for youth;
- conduct ongoing investigations to identify best-practices in the field of youth employment and the need for jobs in our community; and
- work with top technical assistance providers to help advance all of the above.
